Let's Talk Masham!

The Masham is a sheep breed that’s created by pairing Teeswater or Wensleydale rams with Dalesbred or Swaledale Ewes. The resulting offspring have a fleece that is very long and lustrous, mostly suitable for specialty projects due to its relative rarity.

Produced for over a century in Northern England, Masham fibre is soft and durable, making it ideal for outdoor wear, cushion covers, trousers and sweaters. Its also (arguably) one of the most environmentally sustainable yarns on the market because Masham sheep require little grazing compared to other sheep of similar size and productivity.

This is also as local and home grown a product as you could hope to find, currently found only in small farms operated by farming families that have grown up in the harsh but beautiful hillsides of places like the Yorkshire Dales. By buying Masham, you are supporting small, traditional farms run by generations of English farmers.
